The John Lennon FBI files

initial release
after court decision

"JOHN WINSTON LENNON: CONFIDENTIAL"
The FBI in its court filings described this document (NY-19 page 1), dated February 22, 1972, as a "Letterhead Memorandum from Legat, London" - the "Legal Attaché" at the American Embassy there. "Legal Attaché" was the cover title the FBI gave its agents working overseas. The text contains "information provided by a foreign government" and "intelligence information gathered by the United States about or from a foreign country, group or individual." release of the information on this page, according to the FBI, "can reasonably be expected to inter alia: lead to foreign diplomatic, economic and military retaliation against the United States." The withheld information remains the subject of litigation.
